I wasn’t all that familiar with engravings on watches until I tested out this one. I’ve seen pictures of them from time to time but never understood the complicity and talent that goes into engraving on precious metals until I saw in person. The details are very diffract to showcase in the photo. The Audemars Piguet from Previously Enjoyed is engraved by the very talented Joanne Ryall. I did a little research a learned a little more about who this talented women is and her famous family history. The Ryall family has a long history within the engraving world. Joanne’s great grand-father, Henry Thomas Ryall, was appointed Royal Engraver to Queen Victoria during her reign as Queen of England. Currently there are 40 of his art works in the National portrait gallery in London. Joanne was originally a sign writer and was quite successful. After discovering a  classic book on the art of engraving steel and precious metals she was enthralled by the possibilities and her future shifted towards this art form. Today, after years honing her skills, she is recognized as one of the world’s premier hand-engravers, specializing in the embellishment of fine watches, knives and firearms. I really enjoyed my time wearing this timepiece. I own a Royal Oak and it was interesting to wear one with such a different aesthetic. Not to take away from the already classic design of the watch, the engraving adds some uniqueness to an already beautiful watch. It’s almost like combining two pieces of art together; the watch + the engraving.

In my experience with steel bands the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak has the most comfortable designs. I used to lean towards rubber straps for long days or travel. But with Audemars Piguet Royal Oak the band is super comfortable compared to most.
